Mission Ball Presentations

The presentations are the live-action part of the Scoring Session.  Each team gets to make one presentation in each of the four action areas of Mission Ball (happiness & fulfillment, getting better, helping others, and protecting the world.)  The presentations can be made by one or more persons from the team.

The presentations will be judged by the two teams that you team is not competing against this week.  If your presentation runs over the two-minute time limit, it is automatically disqualified and the other team gets the points (unless their presentation also runs over.)

Here are the rules regarding presentations:

a)    A team is not required to make a presentation.  Presentations cannot last longer than 2 minutes (exactly).  If they do, they are disqualified.

b)     The vote should be cast for the all-around better presentation.  Consideration should be given to usefulness of content, delivery, and appropriateness of content.

c)    Point values for all presentations between the two teams that day are one-eighth of the total points earned in that area.  For example, if the Blue and White team were competing and the Blue team earned 180 points in the Happiness & Fulfillment area  and the White team earned 224 points in that same area, the total would be 404 points.  One-eighth of 404 is 50.5 points.  Therefore, the team that is voted to have the better Happiness & Fulfillment presentation wins 50 points (the fraction is dropped.)

d)    All people on the voting teams must cast a vote.  They have three options: for one team, for the other, or to vote them as a draw (even).

e)    All presentation points go to one or the other team, unless the votes are exactly split.  In this case, the points are split down the middle (dropping any fraction.)

f)   Presentations should not include any fancy or expensive props.

Ideas for presentations:

Happiness & Fulfillment:  Talk about something that is your mission in life, or about someone who is happy who is a role model for you.  Or talk about some important insight that you had about happiness and fulfillment.

Getting Better:  Talk about some personal obstacle that you’ve overcome, or one that you’re struggling with.

Helping Others:  Teach a skill or present some very useful information that helps individuals.  Or talk about your experience of empowering someone.

Protecting the World:  This category covers more than the environment; it includes community, the economy, and politics.  Present some useful information or skill about your community, the environment, being politically active, or being socially responsible.  Or tell an inspiring story.

How to prepare if you’re doing a presentation:

At the team meeting, run through your presentation in front of someone who will time you and give you suggestions for improvements.  Do this a couple of times until you’re comfortable.
