Team Captain

During the week

Encourage your team members as you see fit.  Ideas:

·       Have the team pair up into buddies who will call each other.

·       If you want to, organize a team action or charity fundraiser.

·       Encourage individual team members to challenge themselves.

·       Look in the Handbook for more ideas and add them below.

You’re responsible for seeing that one or two team members create the two cheers.  (Cheers can be used over again.)

At the Scoring Session

At the team meeting, keep things moving along.  There’s a lot to do, so don’t let them get bogged down.

At the Scoring Session you’ll be passing out and collecting the ballots four times.  (These can be found in the pocket of the team binder.)  A vote will be needed after each pair of presentations.  During the first and third quarters, you don’t collect the ballots until after each of the two cheers; otherwise they are collected after the presentations are through.

When you collect the ballots, give them to the Emcee for final tabulation.

Make sure that everyone has a fresh copy of the Individual Score Sheet before they leave.

Scorekeeper Instructions

Bring a calculator if there isn’t one in your team binder.

At the Team Meeting When You Get the Score Sheets

Transfer totals from the Individual Score Sheets to the Team Records Sheet for each of the four main action areas.  Also transfer the totals of donation, team building, pre-session team spirit points, balance points and the individual grand totals.

On the Team Record Sheet, add up the totals to get the Team Totals for the four main areas, the total for balance points, the total for Team Spirit points, and the overall total.  Put these in the shaded boxes in the first table.  Check your work.

If you can work ahead, it helps to transfer the totals from the “Week Scores” table to the “Game Points” table.  For instance, you can rewrite the HF total (Happiness & Fulfillment) from the Week Scores table, into the first box in upper left corner of the Game Points table, (that is, under “Week” and beside “1st Q, H&F.”)   Do this with the other three main action areas, (placing them all in the “Week” column.)  You can also transfer the Donation, Balance, Team Building and Pre-Session Team Spirit Points to the appropriate places in the third column (“Special Points”) of the Game Points table.  However, be sure to leave room for the Cheer points.

At the Scoring Session

The master of ceremonies will be filling in the scoreboard quarter by quarter.  Using the Team Record Sheet, be ready to give the particular total scores when requested.

To generate the value of each presentation, use the following formula:

(Your team’s score in that action area + your opponent’s score in that action area)/8=

Then take that number and eliminate any fraction.

Give this number to the Emcee when requested.  (The scorekeeper of the other team should come up with the same number.)

Check the addition of the Emcee as he or she proceeds.

Emcee's Role

To prepare for a Scoring Session make sure you have:

1.     Enough ballots.   Place some in each of the team binders.

2.     A calculator.

3.     The Scoreboards.

4.     Post-it notes for the Score Board.

5.     A magic marker that works.

6.     A bell or whistle.

7.      Pencils that are sharpened and have decent erasers for writing on the ballots.
