Goal & Growth Group Walk-Through

This sheet will lead you through the Goal & Growth Group format.

Someone in the group volunteers to read the following aloud:   “The meeting consists of three rounds, one on action, one on learning and one on appreciation.  During each round each of us gets a turn to speak.  You can pass if you don’t want to say anything.  One or two people can also make brief responses during someone else’s turn, but don’t talk about yourself until your turn.  [pause]  The first round is about your progress and plans.  Please share on both of the following questions:

1. What progress have you made toward your goals since the last meeting (or this last week)?

2.  (And)  What are your plans (your specific goals) that you expect to accomplish by the next meeting?  Please make these specific by telling ‘how,’ ‘how much’ and ‘by when.’”  Then someone volunteers to go first, and you go in a circle from there.

Then someone volunteers to read the following: “The second round is on practical learning.  Share on one of the following questions:

1.   What did you study since the last meeting to help you toward your goals?

2.  (Or)  What insight did you have since the last meeting that was significant for you?

3.  (Or)  What's the greatest challenge facing you? What are you studying in order to overcome it?

4.  (Or)  What information do you need right now to help you toward a goal of yours?”   Again, each person takes a turn or passes.

When the second round is complete someone else reads the following aloud:

“The third round is on appreciation. Share on one of the following questions:

1.   What's one thing you've appreciated since the last meeting?

2.   (Or)  What's a positive emotional experience that you had recently?

3.   (Or)  How are you feeling now?”

If time permits, the group can have an ‘Interchange’ discussion:

Often a common theme or thread appears in the reports, since people may have similar problems managing time, motivating themselves, dealing with others, managing stress or money, etc.  If that is the case, the group can discuss the issue or topic in more detail. To be effective, the Interchange topic needs to be immediately and practically relevant to those participating.
